Sesame Oil Chicken
Cook this delicious and quick 30-minute Chinese dish with sesame oil, chicken breast, and ginger that is healthy and a classic Chinese confinement dish for new Moms.
Sesame oil chicken is one of the easiest and tastiest Chinese stir fry to master. The combination of chicken, sesame oil, and plenty of ginger makes this a classic Chinese confinement dish.
I cook this dish regularly since it’s delicious and so easy to prepare. I think it’s a shame to only prepare this dish for new Moms, don’t you think? ;)
Ingredients for sesame oil chicken
The main ingredients for this dish are sesame oil, chicken breast, and ginger.
The sauce is a mix of Shaoxing wine, soy sauce, oyster sauce, salt, sugar, pepper, and water.
I add goji berries since I always have them in my pantry. Plus, they just fit with the overall healthy dish theme of this dish.
You can skip the garnish if you wish, but some thinly sliced scallions or cilantro perks the dish up and make it look fresh and enticing.
How to cook sesame oil chicken
Heat a wok until hot over medium-high heat, then add sesame oil and sauté ginger until fragrant.
Add chicken breast cubes and stir for 30 seconds. Add Shaoxing wine, soy sauce, oyster sauce, salt, sugar, and ground white pepper. Stir until the chicken is no longer pink.
Pour water into the wok and bring to a boil. Add goji berries and mix well. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes until the chicken is fully cooked and tender.
Thicken the sauce with cornstarch slurry, and continue stirring until the sauce is thick.
Turn off heat, add thinly sliced scallions/cilantro (if using), and gently toss to mix well. Transfer to a serving plate and serve with steamed white rice.
