  • onion (preferably red)
  • tomato
  • garlic
  • chilies (preferably red)
  • tomato ketchup
  • pepper
  • scallions
  • calamansi/lime

How to cook Sardines in Tomato Sauce

  1. Open the cans of sardines and separate the fish from the tomato sauce.

  2. Heat a tablespoon of oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Sauté the onion for 1 minute. Add the tomatoes, garlic, and chilies. Cook for another 30 seconds.

  3. Add the reserved tomato sauce, ketchup, and pepper. Cook for 2 minutes.

  4. Add the sardines to the pan and cook for another 2 minutes.

  5. Transfer the dish to a serving plate. Garnish with scallions, and squeeze calamansi/lime juice over the dish before serving.
